The Water Goddess Story | |

Story of the Water Goddess:
When I worked for Hans Van de Bovenkamp making his fountain designs I was dating a woman whom I greatly favored. It was out of my love for her that I made the Water Goddess, it was to be a gift. Well the relationship fell apart, and the Goddess sat in limbo. I set it up near my workstation, and had it run all summer. I felt like "the Goddess was overseeing my work." Then one day Hans was doing a gallery show of all his fountains in Greenwich, CT. He invited me to show my piece in the gallery with all of his. First the gallery owner wanted to put my piece in the front window (not knowing it wasn't one of Hans'), then when the show opened somebody wanted to buy my piece in the first five minutes. I told him I couldn't sell it, because it was a gift for my sorta ex-girlfriend. Hans thought I was nuts the price tag was $3000. Ultimately we agreed that I would make the client a replica, and the deal was completed. My ex-girlfriend and I never got back together; I gave her the fountain anyway. We are still good friends. And me, well I went off on my own and became a Fountain Maker, and I still feel that The Goddess is overseeing my work. -DLP- |
