This was my first major design project. Early on in my career I would sell my pieces on the street in SoHo, NY. It seemed to always work, if I could just bring a couple of pieces down to the city, eventually somebody would buy one.

Well, one Thursday, when I was particularly low on money, I did the trip to NYC to see if anyone wanted a copper fountain. I sat there all afternoon, lots of people stopped, but no sales. I was getting kind of bummed out.

Then out of the blue this very attractive woman comes up to me and says “ I love these, I want you to build the fountain for my new store”. She told me to wait where I was and that her boyfriend would come over within the hour to see my work and give me a deposit on their 7-foot high fountain. Sure enough, half an hour later her boyfriend came by with check in hand, and I was off on my first major project.

As things worked out they loved the fountain so much that they then hired me to create a 40’ railing for the store and also opted to carry my small fountains as products.

Ultimately, the first thing they sold out of their new store in SoHo, was one of my tabletop fountains, we were all ecstatic at the coincidences, and I’m proud to say that King’s Road Home is still my premier store in the Country.
